TOURIST TRAP! My wife and I spent like 3 weeks in Japan and thought we would have some good Kobe experience on our last day. Well while the meat might have been good enough everything else was making us feel like being in a tourist trap. - prices, ok Kobe is expensive but we are sure here is also a foreigner fee added into the price - overly enthusiastic personnel (don‘t get me wrong they were nice, but it seemed like they were forced to over-perform due to the boss standing behind all guests watching them) Ok that is all our very own perspective, but the fact that they in the end asked for a minimum of 18% tip to a bill of over 50‘000Y proved the point for us that it is a tourist trap trying to catch Americans with high prices and ok meats. No other place would ask us for a tip during our entire stay and culturally, we learned that it is considered rude to do so. We could also tell that the server wasn’t feeling too comfortable about asking for a tip.
